Breeding African Cichlids

Cichlid breeding

The ideal ratio of females to males in African cichlid breeding depends on the species of cichlid you are breeding. In general, it is recommended to keep one male with three to five females in a breeding group. This ratio helps to reduce aggression between males and encourages natural breeding behavior.

Some species of African cichlids are more aggressive and territorial than others, and may require a larger number of females to keep the male's aggression in check. It's important to research the specific species of cichlid you are breeding to determine the appropriate male-to-female ratio for successful breeding.

Keep in mind that even with the proper male-to-female ratio, there may still be some aggression and territorial behavior in the breeding group. Providing plenty of hiding places and decorations in the tank can help to reduce aggression and stress among the fish.
